PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Dr. Cheryl Cummings possesses over 21 years of extensive experience in mental health and clinical settings, specializing in clinical supervision, comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP) management, and facilitation of training workshops on various mental health subjects. In her role as EAP Counselor/Coordinator, Dr. Cummings led the development and oversight of EAP initiatives, provided confidential counseling services to employees, and collaborated with HR professionals to align program objectives with organizational goals. Additionally, as the Owner/Clinical Director of her private practice, she demonstrated adept leadership and organizational capabilities by overseeing daily operations, conducting individual and family counseling sessions, and supervising both limited licensed clinicians and licensed supervisor candidates.

Aside from her professional roles, Dr. Cummings has significantly impacted academia as an accomplished online adjunct faculty member, instructing undergraduate and graduate-level courses spanning human services, counseling, and psychology. Additionally, she has served as a valuable mental health consultant for numerous non-profit programs, conducting classroom observations, imparting staff with expertise in behavior support plans, and connecting families with essential community mental health services. Dr. Cummings' multifaceted career and unwavering dedication to the progression of mental health counseling render her exceptionally qualified for leadership roles within the field.


ASSOCIATION EXPERIENCE

Since 2016, Dr. Cummings has been a committed member of the South Carolina Clinical Mental Health Counselors Association (SCCMHCA) Board, initially joining via the South Carolina Association of Licensed Professional Counselors (SCALPC). Her dedication swiftly earned her a seat on the SCCMHCA Board of Directors in August 2021, where she showcased exceptional leadership. In November 2023, she ascended to the role of President-Elect, further illustrating her ongoing commitment and adept leadership. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Cummings chaired the Professional Development Committee, providing invaluable training opportunities.

In 2017, Dr. Cummings extended her commitment to the profession by engaging with the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA). Since 2023, she has chaired the Public Policy and Legislative Committee, amplifying her advocacy efforts. Notably, Dr. Cummings attained recognition as a Diplomate Clinical Mental Health Specialist for Children and Adolescents in 2017, highlighting her expertise and esteem within the field.



GOALS

  1. Increase Membership Engagement: Implement strategies to increase membership engagement within the Southern region by organizing virtual networking events, webinars, and town hall meetings to connect members, share resources, and address their needs and concerns directly.
  2. Strengthen Collaboration with State Boards: Foster stronger collaboration and communication between AMHCA and state licensing boards within the Southern region by organizing regular meetings, sharing updates on regulatory changes, and addressing any challenges or concerns raised by members regarding licensure and practice standards.
  3. Support Emerging Leaders: Identify and mentor emerging leaders within the Southern region by providing leadership training, networking opportunities, and guidance on professional development pathways, empowering them to take on leadership roles within AMHCA and their respective state chapters.
