Kristy Brown is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and National Certified Counselor in the state of Iowa. She is a 2004 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a Master's degree in the CACREP program of Mental Health Counseling.
Kristy currently serves as a Behavioral Health Specialist Care Manager for a managed care organization, working with a special population of clientele in the state of Iowa with the highest need of complex concerns. Additionally she worked as a clinician at a nonprofit agency in Des Moines, Iowa for almost 10 years, both at a psychiatric mental institute for children (PMIC) and on outpatient levels for children, adolescents, adults, and family therapy. Kristy specializes in trauma and is a certified trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapist (TF-CBT). She is trained in Discovery for sexual abuse victims under the age of 6. Kristy has recently been trained as a volunteer for the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Fundamentals and Psychological First Aid.
Prior to becoming AMHCA Midwest Regional Director, she has served on the state licensure Board for the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association since 2003 fulfilling the roles of President Elect, President, and Past President. Kristy has been a member of AMHCA since 2003 and has attended the last several AMHCA leadership conferences. She is currently on the AMHCA State Chapter Relations Committee.
